Audio Refresher โ€‹

A podcast-style walkthrough of key exam tactics. Useful as a final pass before practice questions or exam-day review.

Target Candidate

This exam is for developers who already work comfortably with T-SQL, database design, and deployment workflows, and now need to add AI-assisted development, embeddings/vector search, and RAG patterns into SQL-backed applications.

Official Scope Note

Microsoft has not released a large official learning path for this exam yet, but the official study guide clearly defines what is assessed. These notes follow that study guide and fill coverage around the three published skill areas.

What the Exam Covers โ€‹

According to the official study guide, DP-800 currently measures three skill areas:

Skill AreaWeightFocus
Domain 1: Design and develop database solutions35-40%Database objects, advanced T-SQL, JSON/regex/graph queries, AI-assisted tooling
Domain 2: Secure, optimize, and deploy database solutions35-40%Encryption, RLS, DDM, performance tuning, SQL projects, DAB, CI/CD
Domain 3: Implement AI capabilities in database solutions25-30%External models, embeddings, vector search, hybrid search, RAG

Study Notes for This Cert โ€‹

  • Domain 1 emphasizes database craftsmanship: schema design, advanced T-SQL, and AI-assisted SQL workflows.
  • Domain 2 is heavy on real production concerns: security, query tuning, CI/CD, and safe deployments.
  • Domain 3 is where the AI-specific differentiators show up: embeddings, vectors, hybrid retrieval, and SQL-native RAG orchestration.

Resource Caveat

As of March 28, 2026, Microsoft states that the Practice Assessment is not currently available for DP-800 because the exam is still in beta.
